Rise & Grind Inc. is a satirical advertisement that shows the dangers of work culture and the impact it has on the individual. Designed to be displayed on the side of a bus stop, the ad follows three characters through a typical day in their life.
Juxtaposing the tired and gloomy feelings of June, Jimmy and Mikki, bright colour palettes and fun props try to sell you the idea that everything is fine. You view June, Jimmy and Mikki's life in yellow, blue, and pink coloured shades. Sacrificing their personal lives and well-being to uphold the rise and grind mentality. The ad explores the false sense of productivity that capitalism sells to us everyday, and challenges the social construct that overworking as being a good thing for our lives. The ad also touches on how integral public transport is to communities, oftentimes being the only time for reprieve in an overworked employee’s life.
Filmed on opposite ends of a national lockdown, Rise & Grind Inc. is an imagined response to a real modern struggle.
