There’s a power to seeing yourself represented on screen and behind the camera. For the return of the Way Out West Festival in 2022, I wanted to extend this power to festival audiences.
Smile! You're on Camera is an installation that explores the anxieties and joys of being on camera. Through working in media, I've noticed that young people tend to shy away when the lens is pointed at them. The installation encouraged exploration of the self in fun and exciting ways as everyone deserves to be represented on screen.
This work was created in collaboration with ReFill students at Miller Technology High School.
