It starts with a fort. Made out of blankets in the dead of night, with stacks of books, clutter and trinkets covering the space.
There’s a light that’s flickering from inside the fort. Who are they calling out to?
My Week as a Ghost explores the complexities of struggles with depression and trauma. Delving into the fear of leaving the house, the fear of being misunderstood, and the fear of losing those around you as you lose yourself.
Created over the span of six weeks, My Week as a Ghost was created in Bankstown Arts Centre’s digital program, Zoom Lens. Alongside four other emerging artists and creatives, video artworks and short films were created using only smartphones. These videos responded to important issues faced by young people in western Sydney, tackling topics such as the lack safe spaces, inclusivity, mental health issues, and what it means to be from marginalised communities.
My Week as a Ghost was exhibited at Bankstown Arts Centre during Canterbury-Bankstown City's Youth Week event, The Area: World Tour on 29 April 2023. After the event, the work was displayed on a pop-up storybox in Bankstown until 4 May 2023.
